For many years, the Bridges for Women Society has maintained a paper-based listing of the groups, organizations, associations and societies that exist in Victoria and the surrounding area. Developed and hosted by the Victoria Telecommunity Network and maintained by the Bridges for Women Society, the Bridges Online Asset Map is the web-based counterpart of that resource.

If you wish to have your organization included in the Bridges Online Asset Map or if you require changes to your existing record, please notify Bridges at the Information Centre address given at the bottom of this page. Please send along any newsletters, annual reports and related literature that you would like made available to the public. A website is increasingly important promotional feature for many community groups. If your organization does not have a web page and would like one, you may contact the Victoria Telecommunity Network at (250) 727-7057 or by e-mail at hq@victoria.tc.ca . This organization will be pleased to assist you in developing a web page. While there is no charge for this service, a donation would be appreciated in order to support their operations.

Information in the database may be located in three ways: by doing a Structured search, by doing a Free Text search, or by Browsing through a list of all the groups that are listed in the database.

The Structured search is a precise search which allows you to locate records which match a particular known word or fragment of a word in the Organization's Name, Address, Description, Contact Information or Subject. For example, entering "logical" in the Organization Name will find the following: Archaeological Society; Ecological Health Alliance; Paleontological Society; Genealogical Society. These fields can be searched singly or in combination for an even more precise search.

The Free Text search, on the other hand is a much more general search which will locate all records which match all or any of the give search words regardless of where they occur in the record. You can only use whole words though; word fragments won't work! This type of search is handy when you're not sure of the name of the organization you're looking for, and are instead searching for services offered.

A Browse search will provide you with an overview of the names of all the groups and organizations which have provided us with their contact information. You can use your mouse to click on any of the names to see the group's details.
